Okieville

"East side Okieville, never work never will," is a common phrase in this neighborhood, it's namesake from the original Okies that settled here during the Dust Bowl. I'm working on a multimedia project that disects the question: How do you break the cycle of poverty? It's been asked a lot. And there are a lot of different answers. Take away welfare, increase it, after-school programs for kids, help re-establish the family structure...but this neighborhood presents a unique side of the argument.

Port of Oakland Trucker Portraits

A series showing the faces of the truckers who haul most of your goods. The truckers at this port are as diverse as can be--African, Vietnamese, Mexican, South American. Many are entrepreneurs in their own right. This series is to show that diversity and also to communicate the difficulties of applying eco-conscious laws in California.
